Adoptable Pets

Adopting through Life Is Better

  • If you are interested in a dog, please submit an application online. We are foster based and therefore do not have a public facility to visit our animals. Meetings with our animals are set up with an approved adoption application. Applications are processed in the order in which they are recieved.
  • If you are interested in a cat or any of our other small animals go directly through the Arvada PetSmart #252. Please do not use our online application for animals other than dogs. Note: we try to keep PetFinder up to date; however, we are not always able to do so. Your best option is go directly to PetSmart #252 to see if they are still available.
  • We accept one application per household and only one dog may be listed.
  • We do not hold applications. If you are interested in adopting an animal, you must submit a new application even if you have been approved in the past.
  • Our cats and other animals are available for adoption directly through the Arvada PetSmart #252. Please do not use our online application for animals other than dogs. (See below.)
  • Our experience has taught us that animals adopted together are generally more difficult to train well and have a harder time adjusting and bonding with the new family, so we do not adopt out multiple cats or dogs, littermates or otherwise, at the same time. We don't mind setting up an adoption for another animal at a later date, but we will generally only send one animal home at a time.
  • If you are looking for an Emotional Support Animal and your housing situation doesn't allow animals, please get the proper paperwork taken care of so we can verify with your landlord/housing management that you may have the animal.
  • We need to verify vaccination records for any current pets in your household. Please provide us with the contact information where we can check the vaccination status.
  • We do not have the capability to ship our animals. Also, we only adopt to Colorado residents.

Please note the best way to contact us is via e-mail. If you are interested in adopting an animal from Life is Better Rescue, please submit a completed adoption application form. We are unable to evaluate your adoption request unless this form has been submitted to us. Completion of the application does not guarantee adoption of an animal from Life is Better Rescue.

Before applying to adopt, please read the appropriate adoption agreement.

When you're ready to apply, fill out our online application.

The availability of our animals is always subject to change. We encourage you to check back.

Arizona

Photo of Arizona Photo of Arizona

Arizona is a 4.5 year old Akita Mix that was transferred to rescue from a local shelter with her newborn puppies. After raising her puppies, who have all been adopted, Arizona has settled into a happy life and routine with her foster and is a friendly, healthy adult dog. She's been with us for more than seven months, which is surprising given that she is housebroken and gets along with people, other dogs, and even cats. We believe that prior to rescue, Arizona spent a lot of time outside and can sometimes be more comfortable lounging in the backyard than in the house. She's also become very attached to her foster dad (as Akitas tend to do) and will require an adoptive household that understands there will be a transition period before she is comfortable with her new family, surroundings, and routine. Arizona can present with separation anxiety, which includes pacing and verbalizing her displeasure, however with time and consistency, these behaviors have been eliminated in her foster home. We'd love to see Arizona thrive in a home that knows the breed and is truly committed to the time and energy required to help a rescue dog settle into a new and better life. Whether you work from home, are active and like to take your canine pals along, or own property where she can explore, we'd encourage you to consider making Arizona a member of your family. Arizona is spayed, fully vaccinated, heartworm tested negative, microchipped with registration, wormed, and has had entropion correction surgery on her left eye. Her adoption fee is $350.

Copper

Photo of Copper Photo of Copper

Copper is a wirehaired mixed breed (maybe Doodle, we aren't sure) pup with striking golden eyes. At about a year and a half, he arrived to rescue extremely undersocialized and fearful. With humans, this presented as frequent putting on the brakes and "pancaking." In his foster home, he quickly became more comfortable with the humans there and established routines and relationships of trust, but didn't progress much with other people. Copper was also very afraid of encounters with other dogs, and would lunge, growling, barking and generally work himself into a panic. We moved Copper into foster with a trainer and a well-balanced pack to help him learn how to "dog." With lots of exercise, structure, and opportunities for socialization and training, in less than a month he has been pushed out of his comfort zone and is showing increased confidence and even realized he loves playing with other dogs! Copper needs a calm, confident dog companion in his new home, and humans who are committed to helping him continue to explore the world and build confidence through patience, positive reinforcement, and routine. Copper is neutered, fully vaccinated, treated for parasites, heartworm tested negative, and microchipped with registration. His adoption fee is $350.

Callie

Callie is a 1 year old mixed breed that was saved from death row. Callie is a nice dog who just needed a chance out of the shelter environment in order to flourish and be ready for adoption. She has been spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and has been dewormed. Callie is working on all the obedience items (house training, crate training, general commands, etc.) and would love to be part of a family that keep her occupied as part of daily routine. Callie is $350 to adopt.

Carmen

Photo of Carmen Photo of Carmen

Carmen is a two year old mixed breed dog who looks a little bit Aussie and a little bit something unknown. She is very smart with a huge capacity for learning additional obedience, tricks, and more. Carmen is dog-friendly, kid-friendly, housebroken, and crate-trained. Her foster crates her when she leaves the house, as she does like to chew. She is not a runner, but has learned she can clear short fences to get to the front door, so would do best with a privacy fence or in a leash walk household. Carmen is on the petite side at less than 40 pounds, and we think she'd love outdoor activities like hiking. She is spayed, vaccinated, heartworm tested negative, wormed, treated for parasites, and microchipped with registration. Carmen's adoption fee is $350.

Tempe

Photo of Tempe Photo of Tempe

Tempe is a six month old mixed breed puppy. Her mom is an Akita, but Tempe and her littermates take after their mystery dad and look like fluffy teddy bears. She will be a large adult dog, already weighing in at well over 50 pounds with giant paws to grow into. Tempe is very eager to please and working on all the normal puppy things: socialization, housetraining, and obedience. As a large breed, it will be especially important for her to continue with training and exposure to our fun world. Tempe is spayed, vaccinated for age, wormed, on heartworm preventative, and microchipped with registration. She is $450 to adopt.

Cassidy

Photo of Cassidy Photo of Cassidy

Cassidy is a 4 year old Rottweiler that was saved from death row. Cassidy is a very typical rottie — super human-oriented, friendly, stoic. She is a very very sweet dog that loves belly rubs and thinks she's a lap dog. She eats and sleeps great and is house trained. She does not like cats. She is great with kids and is food/treat motivated. Cassidy can be dog selective but has integrated successfully with the foster family's dogs. She has been spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and has been dewormed. Cassidy would love to be part of a family that keep her occupied as part of daily routine. Cassidy is $350 to adopt.
